Advanced trichology and surgical support – PRP regenerative medicine for hair

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) in hair loss treatment

Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is the most common cause of hair loss, affecting both men and women. It is a highly insidious condition that develops silently over many years. In the initial stage, it is easy to miss the subtle signs: hair around the receding hairline or the crown of the head slowly becomes thinner, shorter, and finer – a process known as hair follicle miniaturization. Over time, visible and constantly expanding thinning areas appear on the scalp.

In modern trichological therapy, Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) holds a key position. It is a fully natural, autologous method that utilizes powerful growth factors from the patient's own blood. At Maritime Hair Center, we successfully apply it in two areas: as a standalone, highly effective treatment for androgenetic alopecia, and as crucial biological support following FUE hair transplants.

What is Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)?

PRP is a sterile concentrate of blood platelets suspended in a small volume of plasma, rich in biologically active growth factors (including PDGF, TGF-β, VEGF, EGF). Following intradermal administration, these substances instantly trigger repair processes: they stimulate the regeneration of damaged tissues, improve microcirculation around the hair bulbs, extend the active growth phase of the hair (anagen), and effectively inhibit follicle miniaturization. The procedure is 100% safe and biocompatible, completely eliminating the risk of rejection or allergic reactions.

Two pillars of PRP therapy application

1. PRP as a standalone treatment for androgenetic alopecia

This condition results from a genetic hypersensitivity of the follicles to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which leads to their slow degeneration. Platelet-rich plasma therapy targets this mechanism directly and acts on several levels simultaneously:

Stimulates dormant stem cells in the hair follicles
Increases density (by an average of 20–40 hairs / cm²)
Visibly thickens and improves the quality of existing hair
Effectively stops excessive hair loss and stimulates blood supply

* Clinical studies confirm the highest efficacy of PRP in the early and intermediate stages of the condition. The best results are achieved with a series of 3–6 treatments performed every 4–6 weeks, complemented by maintenance procedures every six months or a year. This therapy works excellently in combination with pharmacotherapy (minoxidil, finasteride/dutasteride).

2. PRP after FUE hair transplant – a regeneration accelerator

FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) transplantation allows for permanent hair restoration in balding areas. However, to maximize the benefits of the surgery, we routinely combine it with the administration of platelet-rich plasma. This ensures:

  • Significantly accelerated healing: The skin in both the donor and recipient areas regenerates up to several weeks faster.
  • Maximum graft survival rate: Growth factors help newly transplanted follicles anchor and adapt quickly.
  • Deep nourishment: Improved blood supply stimulates both the new and existing, weakened neighboring hairs, resulting in a denser and thicker hairstyle.

What does the scalp procedure look like?

01
Blood collection: Drawing approximately 10–60 ml of venous blood from the patient, in an identical manner to routine laboratory tests.
02
Medical preparation: Centrifuging the blood in a sterile, certified centrifuge to separate and concentrate the platelets.
03
Patient comfort: Optional local anesthesia of the scalp is applied at the patient's request.
04
Targeted injection: Precise, dense micro-punctures or plasma injections directly into areas affected by thinning or into the transplant zone.

The entire procedure takes only 15–30 minutes. It is minimally invasive – you can return to your daily activities immediately after leaving the clinic. Slight redness or mild swelling disappears spontaneously within 24–48 hours.
